Architecture studies and research into placemaking, on one hand, help you to narrow down the answer to this question, but on another, tangles up your mind with tangents and asterisks that you end up questioning why you asked yourself this question in the first place. Being one leg in visual arts (if you can call architecture that) and one in sound art\/music, trying to reflect onto this question and how we interact with our creations, I\u2019ve realized that maybe I was looking for an answer in the wrong place \u2013 in the end, you don\u2019t understand your world through the lens of theory, reading P. Zumthor\u2019s \u201cAtmospheres\u201d or not-fully-understanding Christopher Alexander\u2019s \u201cA Pattern Language\u201d doesn\u2019t change how we process the world, it\u2019s all about sense, smell, taste, sound, sight and through these primordial senses our brains extrapolate that we\u2019re, indeed, \u201cSitting in a room\u201d <span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_1332_1('footnote_plugin_reference_1332_1_1');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_1332_1('footnote_plugin_reference_1332_1_1');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_1332_1_1\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[1]<\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_1332_1_1\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\">\u00a0I Am Sitting in a Room, Alvin Lucier, 1969 &#8211; <span class=\"footnote_url_wrap\">https:\/\/www.ubu.com\/sound\/lucier.html<\/span><\/span><\/span><script type=\"text\/javascript\"> jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_1332_1_1').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_1332_1_1', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top center', relative: true, offset: [-7, 0], });<\/script> .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>That\u2019s why, trying to find an answer lead to a certain minimization, trying to understand purely based on a phenomenological sense of the world, which lead me to sound. Sound, I\u2019d say, is a bit special when it comes to architecture \u2013 it usually arises naturally, isn\u2019t moulded by the hands of the architect, is, in fact, a unique representation of the space it inhabits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>The question changed to \u201cHow do we speak to our environment?\u201d.
