The second presentation presented by an architect and carpenter Ulla Alla, who is working both in Estonia and Georgia. She is part of the GRBGKDS [Garbage Kids] collective in Tbilisi, which combines manual skills and knowledge from both Estonia and Georgia vernacular carpentry resulting in a playful collectable one-of-a-kind furniture and installation. In Estonia she is one of the founders of VARES – Valga Architecture Residency – that focuses on critically rethinking the discipline of architecture, learning and resurrecting vernacular crafts and repurposing used materials in architecture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The presentation focused on Ulla Alla’s MA research which was triggered by a disappointment with the mainstream building industry. Industry that encourages overconsumption and temporary \u2013 garbage mounds are growing and a tedious global singularity is spreading in its place. The research calls on the building industry to just stop, posing questions of “Is there already enough?”. The presentation follows Ulla’s personal reflections and explorations of not doing in the field of architecture and dwells also into the work after the thesis, of explorations of an architect that tries to not do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
