Tuomas Toivonen is an architect, musician and educator who operates the renowned Kulttuurisauna public bath and cultural space in Helsinki he co-founded, designed and built with Nene Tsuboi. He is the founder of the architecture studio Now Office and a director of the alternative education platform Now Academy. Tuomas also teaches Architecture at EKA - Estonian Academy of Arts. One part of his practice is creating experimental music, sonic spatial installations and musical instruments, he is also the lyricist and frontman of the well known musical band Giant Robot, founded in Helsinki in 1996. In 2023 Tuomas contributed to the Childrens’ Forest Pavilion presented by Lithuania in Venice Architecture Biennial where his field recordings made in old forests became an integral, immersive part of the pavilion exhibition and spaces.
