The history of Open House began decades ago. The first festival of architecture was held in 1992 in London. The event attracted a lot of interest and quickly became popular all over the world. Open House Weekend is currently held annually in more than fifty cities around the world: Buenos Aires, Mexico, Chicago, Lisbon, Tallinn, Gdansk, Taipei, Seoul and more.

All Open House organizations were united in 2010. The international network Open House Worldwide was established in 2006. The common goal is to involve the public in talking about the quality of architecture and the environment, and to create a unique opportunity for people to understand and learn about buildings and spaces.
